BarCraft Mojito Mixer: Zesty Lime and Fresh Mint, Without the Muddling

The BarCraft Mojito Mixer is a ready-to-pour base with lime and mint flavour. Pour 30ml of the mixer, add 30 - 45ml of your preferred spirit (white rum is the classic), top with chilled soda over ice, and add a mint sprig.

Most home Mojitos go wrong in the same place: the mint. Use too little and you get sweet lime soda. Bash it too hard and it turns bitter. The BarCraft Mojito Mixer takes that step out of your hands, so the drink tastes the same on Friday as it did on Tuesday.

What does it taste like?

The label calls it "Cool Citrus Crush", and describes it as zesty lime and fresh mint with balanced sweetness. That's a fair summary. The lime comes first and the mint follows, cool but not sharp, with enough sugar to round off the sourness. It's the kind of drink that works in a hot kitchen at 6 pm.

How do you make a Mojito with it?

This is the serve printed on the bottle:

  • Fill a tall glass with ice.
  • Pour in 30ml of BarCraft Mojito Mixer.
  • Add 30 - 45ml of your preferred spirit.
  • Finish with chilled soda.
  • Stir once or twice and add a mint sprig.

A small measuring cup helps. Eyeballing a 30ml pour is harder than it sounds, and a few extra millilitres of mixer makes the drink noticeably sweeter.

Which spirit works best?

White rum is the traditional choice, and it's the one we'd start with. It stays out of the way and lets the lime and mint lead. Vodka gives a cleaner, lighter drink. Gin adds a herbal edge that suits the mint nicely. Pick whichever you'd normally drink on its own.

How do you adjust it to your taste?

  • Too sweet for you? Add more soda, or squeeze a lime wedge into the glass.
  • Want more mint? Slap a few fresh leaves between your palms before dropping them in. It releases the oils without any muddling.
  • Want a longer drink? Use a taller glass and more soda. Final drink sizes of 75ml to 200ml all work.
  • Want it fizzier? Make sure the soda is properly cold, and pour it last.

Can you make it without alcohol?

Yes. Skip the spirit and use 30ml of mixer with about 200 - 250ml of chilled soda over ice. It takes roughly half a minute and tastes like a clean, minty lime cooler. See the Mojito recipes for the Virgin Mojito and other versions.

What's in the bottle?

it's a sweetened flavour base. The label lists water, sugar, lime juice concentrate, mint extract, acidity regulators, flavouring substances, a sweetener (sucralose) and preservatives. Per 100ml it has about 160 kcal and 28g of sugars, which works out to roughly 24 kcal and 4g of sugar in each 15ml serve, before you add any spirit or soda. The full nutrition table is on the back of the pack.

Which size should you buy?

The 600ml bottle makes about 20 servings at 15ml, which suits a home bar or a party. The 60ml bottle makes 2 and is the easy way to try the flavour or gift it. You can see both on the Mojito Mixer page.
