BarCraft Piña Colada Mixer: A Lighter, Fizzier Take on the Tropical Classic

The BarCraft Piña Colada Mixer combines juicy pineapple with creamy coconut and a mellow, sweet finish. Pour 30ml of mixer, add 30 - 45ml of white rum or another spirit, top with chilled soda over ice. It makes a long, fizzy Piña Colada, not a thick blended one.

Let's set expectations first. If you picture a Piña Colada as a thick, frosty, blended drink in a hurricane glass, this isn't that. The BarCraft version follows the label serve: mixer, spirit, soda and ice, built in the glass. It's lighter and more refreshing, and a lot less hassle.

What does it taste like?

The label calls it "Creamy Tropical Escape", with juicy pineapple, creamy coconut and a mellow, sweet finish. Pineapple leads, coconut softens it, and the soda keeps it from feeling heavy. It's a holiday drink that you can make on a Wednesday.

How do you make it?

  • Fill a tall glass with ice.
  • Pour in 30ml of BarCraft Piña Colada Mixer.
  • Add 30 - 45ml of your preferred spirit.
  • Finish with chilled soda.
  • Stir gently and garnish with a pineapple wedge or a cherry.

Which spirit should you use?

White rum is the standard and the best place to start. Coconut rum doubles down on the tropical flavour, though it can push the drink toward very sweet, so you may want extra soda. Vodka makes a neutral, fruit-forward version.

How do you get the best result?

  • Use lots of ice. It keeps the coconut flavour crisp rather than cloying.
  • Chill the soda. Warm soda flattens the drink quickly.
  • Garnish properly. A pineapple wedge on the rim changes how the drink looks and smells.
  • Go taller if it's too sweet. A bigger glass and more soda dilute the sweetness without changing the flavour.

Is there an alcohol-free Piña Colada?

Yes, and it's one of the easiest. Use 30ml of mixer with about 200 - 250ml of chilled soda over ice. It's a tropical soda with coconut in the background. The Virgin Piña Colada is in the Piña Colada recipes.

What does the label say about nutrition?

Per 100ml, about 160 kcal and 28g of sugars, so about 24 kcal and 4g of sugar in a 15ml serve before the spirit and soda. The label also lists a sweetener (sucralose), preservatives and natural and nature-identical flavouring substances.

Which food goes with it?

Coconut-based curries, grilled prawns, spicy starters and anything with a bit of heat. The sweetness helps cool spicy food down.

What sizes can you buy?

The 600ml bottle makes about 20 servings. The 60ml bottle makes 2. Both are on the Piña Colada Mixer page.
