BarCraft Sex on the Beach Mixer: Peach, Orange and a Cranberry Edge

The BarCraft Sex on the Beach Mixer is a fruity cocktail base with sweet peach and orange, balanced by tart cranberry. Pour 30ml of mixer, add 30 - 45ml of vodka (or another spirit), finish with chilled soda and ice.

Yes, it's a cheeky name, and it's one of the best-known cocktails of the 1980s. What matters here is the flavour, and this is the most openly fruity mixer in the BarCraft range. If you like drinks that taste like a fruit bowl with a bit of attitude, this is the one.

What does it taste like?

The label calls it "Juicy Peach Paradise": sweet peach and orange, balanced by tart cranberry. The peach and orange arrive first and keep it soft and juicy. The cranberry comes in late and stops it from turning syrupy. The label artwork also shows cherries, which fits the red-fruit finish.

How do you make it?

  • Follow the label:
  • Fill a tall glass with ice.
  • Pour in 30ml of BarCraft Sex on the Beach Mixer.
  • Add 30 - 45ml of your preferred spirit.
  • Finish with chilled soda.
  • Stir gently and garnish with an orange slice or a cherry.

Which spirit goes with it?

Vodka is the classic and the safe choice. White rum makes it a little rounder and more tropical. Gin brings a dry, botanical contrast to all that fruit. If you're making it for guests, vodka is the one nobody questions.

What's the best way to serve it?

Tall and cold. A highball glass, plenty of ice, and soda that's been in the fridge. Because the mixer is sweet and fruity, extra soda is your friend if you find the first sip too sugary. It's a good party drink, since it looks good in a glass and doesn't need any technique.

Can you make it without alcohol?

Easily. Use 30ml of mixer and about 200 - 250ml of chilled soda over ice. The result is a peach-orange soda with a tart finish, and it's one of the better-looking mocktails in the range. See the Sex on the Beach recipes for the mocktail and the party jug.

What should you know about what's inside?

It's a sweetened flavour base, like the others in the range. The label shows about 160 kcal and 28g of sugars per 100ml, so roughly 24 kcal and 4g of sugar per 15ml serve. It also lists a sweetener (sucralose), preservatives and natural and nature-identical flavouring substances.

Which bottle should you pick?

The 600ml bottle makes about 20 servings and suits a home bar or a party. The 60ml bottle makes 2 and is a neat gift or a way to try it before committing. See the Sex on the Beach Mixer page.
