BarCraft Spicy Mango Mixer: Ripe Mango, Lime and a Little Chilli Heat

The BarCraft Spicy Mango Mixer is a mango, lime and chilli cocktail base with a salty finish. The label serve is 30ml of mixer, 30 - 45ml of tequila, neutral vodka or mango flavoured vodka, and 30ml of chilled water or soda, served over fresh ice in a chilli-salt-rimmed glass.

Mango with chilli and salt is a flavour combination most of us grew up with. Raw mango with chilli powder, mango pickle, a squeeze of lime on cut fruit. This mixer takes that familiar mix and turns it into a drink.

What does it taste like?

The label calls it "Sweet Tropical Heat": juicy ripe mango, zesty lime and warming chilli, finishing with a subtle salty tang. The mango is sweet and ripe up front. The chilli builds slowly and warms the back of your throat, but it isn't aggressive. The salt pulls it all together at the end.

How is the label serve different?

This is the only BarCraft mixer with its own printed serve. It uses 30 - 45ml of spirit and 30ml of chilled water or soda, which makes a small, concentrated 75ml drink served over fresh ice rather than a long, fizzy one. The rim is part of the recipe.

How do you make a chilli-salt rim?

  • Mix a pinch of chilli powder into a small plate of fine salt.
  • Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass.
  • Dip the rim into the chilli salt and turn it gently.
  • Fill the glass with fresh ice.
  • Do the rim before you pour, and don't overdo the chilli. A little goes a long way.

How do you make the drink?

  • Rim the glass with chilli salt and fill it with fresh ice.
  • Pour in 30 - 45ml of tequila, neutral vodka or mango flavoured vodka.
  • Add 30ml of BarCraft Spicy Mango Mixer.
  • Add 30ml of chilled water or soda.
  • Stir gently and serve.

Which spirit should you choose?

Tequila is the natural match, because its earthy, peppery character suits mango and chilli. Neutral vodka keeps the focus on the mixer. Mango flavoured vodka doubles down on the fruit. All three are on the label.

Can you make a longer, softer version?

Yes. Use a tall glass, the same 30ml of mixer and 30 - 45ml of spirit, and top with more chilled soda. It becomes a lighter, longer drink, and the heat is gentler.

What about a mocktail?

Fill a glass with ice, add 30ml of mixer and about 85ml of chilled soda, and rim the glass with chilli salt if you like. It's a spicy mango soda, good with snacks. See the Spicy Mango recipes.

What food goes with it?

Chaat, kebabs, tacos, nachos and grilled chicken. It's a natural fit for festive snacks, too. See our Diwali drink ideas.

What's on the label?

About 160 kcal and 28g of sugars per 100ml, so around 24 kcal and 4g of sugar per 15ml. It also lists common salt, a sweetener (sucralose), preservatives and natural and nature-identical flavouring substances. See the Spicy Mango Mixer page for the 600ml and 60ml bottles.
